A Case of Spinal Cord Cysticercosis



Abstract
We have experienced spinal core cysticercosis, which is rarely encountered. A 38 year old male admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery, Catholic Medical Center in August. 1974, with the chief complaints of headache, backache and radiating pain to the lateral aspect of both knee area for several months.
On admission, neurologic examination disclosed moderate scoliosis of the lumbar spine to the left.= Straight leg raising test was positive bilaterally. The Achilles reflexes was diminished on the left side.
A myelogram showed a defect at the 4th lumbar area with evidence of a cystic mass.
The lumber laminectomy in Tuck¢¥s position disclosed a large cystic tumor in the lumbar subarchnoid
space at the level of 4th lumbar vertebra, and histologically this was proved to be cysticercosis. Postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged to home,
